Movies, stories and theater highlight library’s summer fun

Oscar Grady Library is gearing up for a summer of activities including outdoor movies, story times led by Miss Julie and an interactive children’s theater event.

An outdoor screening of “Shrek” will be held on the library lawn, 151 S. Main St., at 9 p.m. on June 11. A rain date of June 18 has been scheduled for the showing.

A weekly summer series of Storytimes with Miss Julie will also kick off in June.

Outdoor morning readings will begin at 10 a.m., June 14 and will be held each Tuesday at the same time until July 26.

Evening readings will begin at 6:30 p.m. on June 15 and will be held each Wednesday at the same time until July 27.

The story times are free to attend though registration is encouraged.

Bug in a rug Children’s Theatre will perform a musical retelling of “Hey Diddle, Diddle” at the library at 2 p.m. on June 16. The event is best suited for children ages three and up. No registration is required.

A part of Oscar Grady’s It Happened in Wisconsin series, history buffs will be discussing “A Short History of Wisconsin” by Erika Janik in the library at 6 p.m. June 20. Limited copies of the book are available for checkout of the library ahead of the discussion.

Milwaukee Public Museum will be hosting an event at the library that is open to students entering first through fifth grade at 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. June 23.

Participants will learn about a rich variety of local plants and animals and how and why they are so important to Wisconsin’s habitats and biodiversity. Participants will also pot their own wildflower seeds to take home.
