Monarch butterflies are topic for club meeting

The monarch butterfly sanctuaries of Mexico will be the topic for the Monday, Nov. 12, meeting of the Port Washington Womans Club.

Shelly Culea, who visited several UNESCO protected monarch sites in the rugged and remote mountains west of Mexico City in 2015, will be the speaker.

Culea raises monarchs from eggs to their release, and during the past seven years she has released more than 500 monarchs.

The club’s annual basket raffle will also be held in November, with the money raised used for a scholarship fund and other community needs.

The themes for this year’s raffle are Best Friend, Time for a Barbecue, Mexican Party, Door County Experience, Relaxation, Healthy Dog Treats, Pressure Relief, Purse Basket and Serendipity.

The club meets in the fellowship hall at Friedens Evangelical Church, 454 N. Milwaukee St. A social hour begins at 11 a.m. followed by a luncheon, business meeting and the program.
