Mary Emory

Former Saukville resident Mary B. Emory, 84, died of complications of Alzheimer’s disease on Monday, Dec. 3, at Lasata Senior Living Campus in Cedarburg.
Mrs. Emory was born in Milwaukee on May 29, 1934, to Leon and Frances Bertram Barwick. She grew up in Milwaukee before moving to Barton in 1947.
After graduating from West Bend High School in 1952, she moved to Milwaukee and worked for Gimbels Department Store. She then moved to Illinois, where she worked at Ridge Farm helping at-risk children.
On July 3, 1956, she married Howard Emory. In 1973, the couple built a home in Saukville. Mr. Emory preceded his wife in death in 2004.
Her family said she dedicated her life to caring for children, not just her own but also countless foster children through the years. Mrs. Emory also loved card games, scrabble, Jeopardy, crossword puzzles and traveling.
Her daughter Kathy Rutkowski said she loved to learn about various cultures, customs and languages and was always the first one willing to try something new.
“She traveled all over the world. Her last trip was to Egypt in 2004,” her daughter said.
Mrs. Emory was a member of the International Institute of Wisconsin and hosted people from all over the world who were visiting or attending school in the state.
“She would host dignitaries from Indonesia and Ethiopia,” her daughter said.
Mrs. Emory is survived by her children Skip (Katie) of Saukville, Leann Tucker of Belgium and Kathy (Curt) Rutkowski of Saukville; grandchildren Courtney Tucker and Curtis, Julia, Jennifer and Caroline Rutkowski; and sisters Carol Mueller of Fredonia and Annette (Kenneth) Bienlein of Newburg.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death in by her son-in-law Russell Tucker, brother Lee Barwick and brother-in-law Robert Mueller.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at Mueller Funeral Home in Cedarburg.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3 p.m. Thursday until the service.
Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association are suggested.
