Martha Gibson

Martha Gibson, 82, died of complications of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and lung cancer at her Saukville residence on Tuesday, Oct. 2.

Mrs. Gibson was born in Grafton on May 2, 1936, to Lawrence and Katie Bintzler Dickmann.

On Nov. 16, 1956, she married Thomas Gibson.

Mrs. Gibson worked for a number of years as a licensed practical nurse at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee in Mequon and Lasata Senior Living Campus in Cedarburg.

“She was a caring and enthusiastic nurse, and all the people she cared for loved her,” her sister Barbara said.

In retirement, she was a receptionist for the Oh Zone hair salon, today Un Tangled, in Port Washington, which was formerly owned by her daughter Colleen.

“She loved a splash of purple in her white hair,” her daughter said.

Mrs. Gibson was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing cribbage with friends at Five Pillars Supper Club in Random Lake.

Mrs. Gibson is survived by her husband Thomas of Saukville; children Catherine (Neal) Gierach of Elm Springs, Ark.; Colleen (Kent) Elvin of Eagan, Minn., Thomas Gibson Jr. of Saukville; John (Laura Hoffman) of Eagle River and Maria (Neal) Trzebiatowski of Edgerton.

She is further survived by 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; siblings Daniel (Erica) Dickmann of Appleton and Barbara (John) Learned of Hancock.

Mrs. Gibson was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Lawrence Jr. and William, and sisters Mary Kons and Betty Thiel, sisters-in-law Mary Ann Dickmann and Florence Dickmann, and brother-in-law Larry Thiel.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date.

The family said they will notify loved ones with the details.
