Library events include theater camp workshops, storytimes held outside

The Oscar Grady Library in Saukville has a mix of new and returning events and activities this July, including a Lego club, multiple theater camp events and a cooking class.

A Lego club for kindergarten to fifth-grade children will meet from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. on July 1, 15 and 29.

Children are invited to use the library’s Lego blocks to build unique creations that could be displayed at the library.

Outdoor storytimes will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays, July 9, 16, 23 and 30.

Storytimes include rhymes, songs, dancing and books.

Those attending are asked to bring something to sit on.

The Teen Craft Sticker by Number event, which invites teenagers to create an art piece by placing stickers on a numbered grid, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 5.

Two theater camp workshops will be hosted by the Concordia University Theatre Department during the second week of July.

Children ages 7 to 11 are invited to take the stage for mini plays based on the Peanuts comic strip  as part of the 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, July 8, to Thursday, July 11, workshop.

The play will be at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 11.

For teenagers, ages 12 to 18, the mythology-themed theatre camp will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday, July 8 to Friday, July 12.

Participants will work together to create a mini play based on god, heroes and monsters that will be presented at a performance at 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 12.

Registration is required for either workshop.

The Trylenaires Singalong Banjo Band will play music on the library’s patio for the whole family at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 13.

Free lemonade and cookies will be provided. Those attending are asked to bring something to sit on.

Foraging experts from the Riveredge Nature Center will teach the ins and outs of identifying edible plants in nature at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16.

That same day, the library’s adult book club will meet at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the book “Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants” by botanist Robin Wall Kimmerer.

On Wednesday, July 17, an Adult Craft Mandala Rock-n-Paint event will be hosted by the library at 1 p.m.

Adults are invited to make dot Mandala art with acrylic paints on a rock for their garden or outdoor space.

The program will be held in the community room. All supplies will be provided.

A presentation on Wisconsin’s glacial landscapes will be held by a speaker from Riveredge in the library’s community room at noon on July 30.

The session will explore the history of Wisconsin’s glacial period and show the clues left behind in its landscape.

An introductory class on baking sourdough breads will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, including information on how to care for and feed a sourdough starter and kneed dough.

Attendees will leave with a sourdough starter and a set of recipes.
