Library activities to include voting exhibit

October activities at the Niederkorn Library in Port Washington include a “We Stand on Their Shoulders” exhibit, Medicare seminar, blood drives, an election presentation and book club meetings.

A career planning workshop will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, by Emily Smith, human resources consultant with Ansay and Associates.

Smith will provides one-on-one assistance with career planning needs, including resume reviewing, interview preparation, job searches and applications.

People may drop in or register for an appointment at the library.

The D&D PW Bookworms group will meet from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays.

The group is for game enthusiasts of all experience levels.

A grief support group will meet from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 2 and 16, in the community room.

The group is facilitated by Colson Leach, bereavement coordinator with Compassus Hospice.

The “We Stand on their Shoulders: A History of Wisconsin Women and Voting”  exhibit will run from Oct. 1 to 31 and highlight moments when women in Wisconsin gained political rights and a few key leaders.

The eight-panel display shares the story of women’s quest for political rights and recognition through quotes, photographs, and a timeline of events.

Voting is the topic for the 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, Port Conversations program.

City Clerk Susan Westerbeke will discuss her role as well as open voter registration and why voting in the upcoming election is important.

“Medicare 101” will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, and 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Port resident and licensed Medicare sales agent Brian Vranek will talk about “The A, B, C’s and D’s of Medicare.” Light refreshments will be provided.

A blood drive will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11.

The Friday Morning Book Talk group will meet at 9:30 a.m.  Friday, Oct. 11, in the quiet room.

The group is sponsored by the Port Senior Center.

Copies of the featured book will be available for check out.

A discussion of “Somewhere Beyond the Sea” by TJ Klune will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16.

The discussion is a follow-up by the Pride Month Book Club and features the sequel to “The House in the Cerulean Sea.” PW Pride is a sponsor of the discussion to help celebrate LGBTQ History Month in October.

Copies of the book will be available at the upstairs circulation desk.

The Novel Ideas Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, in the quiet room.

Copies of the featured book will be available at the desk.

A Red Cross blood drive sponsored by the Port Washington Lions Club will be held at noon Monday, Oct. 21, in the community room.

The BYOBook Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at Inventors Brewpub.

Those attending are asked to share the book they are currently reading or recently finished, no matter the genre.

The Detective Club Murder Mystery Night will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30.

This is a collaborative crime-solving program where those attending will hear from all the suspects, gather their own theories and work with other attendees to prove who the murderer is.

Light refreshments will be offered.
