LETTERS: GHS ‘Drowsy Chaperone’ play kept viewer awake, enthralled

To Ozaukee Press:

About five years ago, my husband, daughter and I saw the musical “The Drowsy Chaperone” in Chicago. Being a New Yorker, I was amazed that I had never heard of this play. We loved it. I bought the CD and learned every song by heart. So when I learned that Grafton High School was performing “The Drowsy Chaperone” I knew I had to see it again.

The students who played in the orchestra sounded fantastic throughout the entire play. My favorite scene was with Robert Martin and George, played by Dominic Danner and Cannon Nash. Their singing voices were strong and their tapdancing during the song “Cold Feets” was so entertaining.

All of the actors were wonderful. I would especially like to shine a spotlight on “The Woman in the Chair,” played brilliantly and confidently by Stacy Ducheny. This role was played by a man when I saw it on Broadway. Stacy was able to make the role her own and she made it work effortlessly.

The other actor who made me laugh was Sadie Monreal. who played the Drowsy Chaperone. Her singing voice was awesome and her comedic delivery was spot on. I also cannot forget Michael Seybold, who played the part of Adolpho, and really made me laugh.

I am not a parent of any of these students. I am a Cedarburg resident with grown children. It was a special treat and reminder for me to start going to our local high schools to see the productions they work so hard to put on.

Thank you to Maggie Condon and the production team of Grafton Performing Arts for a lovely way to spend my Sunday afternoon.
