LETTER: We need proper immigration regulation; Congress must act
To Ozaukee Press:
Congress has debated the issue of immigration for many years, under both Democratic and Republican administrations. During that time there has been a steady flow of immigrants to the U.S., many of whom do not comply with entry requirements. It is abundantly clear that our current immigration laws do not work.
After many years of breast beating, it is time for Congress to act. They owe this to the American people.
In the past year, Congress considered a law that offered a partial solution to the immigration issue. Unfortunately, it was voted down because of pressure from Donald Trump.
There is a strong argument that regulated immigration is critical to our economic well-being. We need fair and workable laws that are enforceable. A bipartisan solution from Congress is the answer, or is that too much to ask of those who are elected by us?
