LETTER: We’re on the wrong track, it’s time to vote for new leaders

To Ozaukee Press,

If current polls are true, 66% of us believe the country is on the wrong track. This means that 66% of us should be open to exploring candidates more in line with our priorities and values.

Over the last few years, the cost of groceries, gas, utilities and just about everything else has soared, while goods are becoming more scarce. Savings are being depleted and retirement funds have lost 25% of their value. We are all struggling. We need inspiring leadership and innovative solutions.

Under the guidance of Gov. Evers, Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes, and Atty. Gen. Josh Kaul, crime has skyrocketed, with a 62% increase in murders in Wisconsin and a 72% increase in car thefts in Milwaukee, the highest in the nation. Over the last four years, a number of murderers and child rapists have been let out of jail before they were eligible for parole. Do you have faith that if a crime were committed against you or a loved one that justice would be served?

Despite record amounts allocated to education, in Wisconsin 60% of students in grades 3-10 are below grade level in English and math. Wisconsin is also the state with the worst academic achievement gap between minority and white students in the nation. Are we really OK with this?

If your priorities are safe neighborhoods, economic growth, fiscal responsibility, education accountability and financial security for all, elect Tim Michels to lead our state and Eric Toney to enforce our laws. If you want to hold our federal government accountable for its out-of-control spending, want a realistic energy policy with a variety of energy resources leading to lower costs and energy independence, and want to support our police, military and veterans, re-elect Ron Johnson to be our voice at the national level.
