LETTER: Voting restrictions after moving could be hard on senior citizens
To Ozaukee Press:
After reading about the effort to force the Wisconsin Election Commission to allow only 30 days to change voter registration records after a person moves to a new address, the reality of the impact on senior citizens jumped out at me.
These folks are often downsizing and have a myriad of topics on their minds and difficult adjustments to make. It is unlikely that voter registration will be their number one concern. They may also be unaware of the requirement to take residency documents to the polling place on election day in order to update their registration.
The organization pushing for the 30-day cut-off for voting eligibility may wish to consider unintended consequences. One would be losing some of their most ardent supporters. Second, this restriction may cause more challenges for people working in polling locations; good luck, municipal clerks.
