LETTER: They acted fast and didn’t give up; they saved her life

THE QUICK ACTIONS of the Port Washington Fire Department and its ambulance crew saved the life of Nicole Blumenberg (third from left) when she suffered a cardiac event on July 10, and the Police and Fire Commission recognized members for their actions recently. Receiving awards at the commission meeting were (from left) Advanced EMT Tim Lund, Lt. Sam Lorge, firefighter/paramedic Jordan Laboy, Assistant Fire Chief Steve Schmidt and Deputy Chief Joe DeBoer. To Ozaukee Press:
I want to thank my co-workers, the dispatcher, police, EMTs, medics and paramedics of Port Washington, as well as the doctors and nurses of Aurora Medical Center in Grafton
If it wasn’t for the fast action and training of everyone involved, I would not be alive today.
I learned that when your heart stops outside of a medical facility, there is usually only a 5-10% chance of survival.
The quick action of my co-worker at Ozaukee Press dialing 911 and the fast response of the police and fire department EMTs allowed me a second chance at life, without any permanent damage. It makes me realize how truly lucky we are to have well-trained police officers, fire department personnel, EMTs and paramedics close by.
My family and I are eternally grateful that these heroes responded quickly and skillfully and did not give up. My words will never be able to express what they did for me.
Nicole Blumenberg
