LETTER: Taxpayers on the hook while sports team owners get richer
To Ozaukee Press:
As a taxpayer in Ozaukee County, which was included in an increased sales tax to cover costs of American Family Field, I am not interested in seeing more tax money go to the upkeep, which may cost taxpayers $600 million.
I’m against private owners of sports teams always asking for public money. You have to be uber-wealthy to own a team. What exactly is the public getting?
During these past many years, I’d get thrown a bone of a discount to only certain games in the spring during the week. That was it. It became more and more expensive to attend games, so I don’t go anymore.
Not mention the original sales tax was supposed to end at a specific date, which it didn’t. It took years to end, obviously giving the Brewers more money.
This situation will never end. Taxpayers will always be on the hook, while owners and players make millions.
