LETTER: Professionalism and profound kindness: Mayor Tom’s legacy
To Ozaukee Press:
Sometimes providence provides the right leader for the right time. Such has been the case and our good fortune to have Tom Mlada serve so selflessly as our mayor in Port Washington. From the extraordinary renaissance we are witnessing in our downtown and Marina District to Mlada’s instincts for building sustainable neighborhoods and a walkable community, we are all beneficiaries of Tom’s vision.
Mayor Mlada has a knack for developing far-reaching strategic relationships, as evidenced by his cooperative efforts and leadership at the county, state, national and even international level. Enhancements at Coal Dock Park, the incredible $4 million secured in outside funding for our ADA-compliant breakwater; 200 volunteers recruited to serve on city boards and commissions, increased water safety, robust economic development and increased tourism, along with steadfast fiscal responsibility and Mlada’s keen eye toward environmental protection underline Mayor Tom’s legacy of professionalism and profound kindness.
I have had the great privilege of working with Mayor Mlada in a variety of settings. He is a highly effective leader of the utmost integrity. Tom and his family have given so much of themselves on our behalf. We’ll miss his leadership and voice of positivity as an elected official. Now I hope that the same providence which bought him to us in this role of service will provide him a lifetime of joyful satisfaction participating as a friend and neighbor in the midst of his unfolding, beautiful legacy in our home Port.
