LETTER: Port Common Council acts like it’s in the financing business

To Ozaukee Press:

Is the Port Washington city council, which voted to give a TIF loan to the Lakepointe townhouse developer to meet unexpected expenses, in the financing business?

The developer claims extra foundation work is needed for the project located where factory buildings once stood.

Framed residential buildings don’t require massive foundations like the chair factory had.

Apartment buildings can even be built on former dumps with compacted fills.

Were the project costs misfigured?

Who is determining the need for TIF support, the city council or the developer or no one?

Is the developer’s request for TIF help really for unforeseen foundation costs or is it for general financing?

Do we need this project so badly that we have to delay its tax base benefits for years until the TIF loan is paid off?
