LETTER: News media that tries to warp minds is enemy of the people

To Ozaukee Press:

Trust in the mainstream media may be at an all-time low.

When the news media forwards their agenda and a narrative, in hopes to warp and control the minds of their audience with falsehoods and under reporting or flat out ignoring facts, they are acting as the enemy of the free press and the people.

They pushed a racial agenda of “hands up, don’t shoot” after the Ferguson shooting and its aftermath, which was proven false pretty quickly, but they never reported the truth or retractions.

They instead fostered and promoted racial strife and divide which continues to this day.

That is acting as an enemy of the people.

Burying stories of scandals and corruption from a previous administration the press loved is acting as an enemy of the people.

Continuously putting out false and uneducated stories of firearms and their usage in America is an affront to the Constitution and is nothing but acting as an enemy of the people.

When the media decides to be the PR and marketing department for a one-sided political ideology and trying daily to overturn the results of an election they didn’t like the outcome of is acting as an enemy of the people.

Ignoring the fact that our economy is rocking, having the best bull market in history, with black and Latino unemployment at its lowest ever, is not acting in the best interests of the people.

Facts are that newspaper readership is down.

Magazines subscriptions are down.

Websites are not getting many to subscribe to stories behind a paywall.

HGTV, the Food Network and Discovery Channel outdraw CNN.

But many trust issues were present long before the current administration and cannot be blamed on the internet.

Instead of pointing the finger outward, the biased media should do some inner reflection.

This letter should not be construed to be in support of Trump.

It is in support  of the fact that a biased media, no matter what side the bias lies on, is not healthy for a free republic.

A return to citing the facts is necessary and let the reader decide.

Fact checking and context need to be considered again, not dismissed with the goal of being the first outlet to try and get a story out there to get more website clicks.

The regaining of respect and credibility will be a very long road for the mainstream media.

The problem is that being unbiased and truthful does not result in enough of the algorithmic website clicks that most of the media wants so dearly.

So much so they will lie, twist the facts or ignore aspects of the story to obtain those clicks.

The credibility of the media may see a slow, drawn-out death as a result.

We deserve better.
