LETTER: It was sad to see demolition of clubhouse built by craftsmen

The Wellenstein brothers of Belgium, Lawrence, Joe and Jim, who were famed for their craftsmanship, constructed the building that was the clubhouse and restaurant for the Port Country Club and later the Squires Golf Club. The building was admired for its soaring roofline, panoramic array of windows and intricately fitted fieldstone walls.
To Ozaukee Press:
The Squires golf course was such a great asset to the Town of Belgium for decades. Hundreds of people learned the game of golf there and thousands more enjoyed playing the course.
It has been disturbing to watch the demolition of the clubhouse. True craftsmen from the area worked on the addition and created those beautiful fieldstone walls. Many from the area have fond memories of the family events held there. I know I do.
