LETTER: Information Fox News beams into homes foretold by ‘1984’

To Ozaukee Press:

To the writer of the letter to the editor in last week’s Ozaukee Press entitled, “No one could do more to fight coronavirus than our president”:

I truly applaud your definitive understanding of the current situation. But more importantly, I applaud the exacting nature of your concern. I applaud your dedicated support of certain news media and the value-added reporting that is so necessary in cloistered lives at this time, especially in this area of the state. It really says it all and puts into understandable and focused perspective what is important.

I, however, applaud it with a different insight. I applaud it because of your ability to raise the importance of the impact that Fox News can have on cloistered media watchers.

The book “1984” by George Orwell, written in1949, supports your observations and how important it is to have that unconditioned information beamed directly into your home. In uncertain times like now, it would be a good insight to read it again. It seems that we all have a lot of time to spend in front of television watching those reading from a teleprompter.

I especially encourage you to continue to support and subscribe to local news reporting and public access to provide a venue to safely express varied opinions.

I especially applaud the editor’s note that followed your published insights (pointing out that, contrary to your assertion, the U.S. has had more Covid-19 deaths than any other country) and the factual reporting that  I have access to my home.

Thank you, Ozaukee Press, keep up the good work.
