LETTER: If you weren’t there, don’t criticize Rittenhouse verdict

To Ozaukee Press:

I’m not going to voice my opinion on the Rittenhouse verdict because I wasn’t a member of the jury. I wasn’t there. However, I have been on jury duty three times in the past, including being the jury foreman on a first-degree murder trial with a not guilty verdict.

That victim’s family was, of course, very vocally upset. The Milwaukee County court system has a slogan—“It was fair, I was there.”

Everyone is entitled to their opinion; after all, this is America. But all these people, especially the cable news talking heads, political and so-called community leaders, weren’t in the Kenosha courtroom, didn’t hear the testimony or see all the video, and don’t have legal degrees, and if they do, probably have forgotten most of their studies.

It’s a shame these leaders and opinion makers are casting aspersions on the 12 jurors and especially on the American justice system. It was fair., they weren’t there.
