LETTER" Grothman backs Trump’s power grab, not Constitution
To Ozaukee Press:
I wish U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman were more concerned about the president usurping Article I powers.
I am stunned that when a president cannot negotiate and secure funding for something he and Grothman think is imperative, Grothman is OK with him acting unilaterally in direct contravention of Article I.
Many politicians proclaim fealty to our Constitution and promise to follow our founder’s intent as expressed in the Federalist Papers.
Indeed, Grothman took an oath to uphold our Constitution.
It is for good reason that our founders feared excessive executive authority.
Yet when Grothman is called upon to uphold our Constitution, the expediency of current politics carries the day and principles are set aside.
I hope Grothman thinks of this sad decision each time in the future when he tells us of his devotion to the rule of law.
