LETTER: Elderly citizens would have a voice on board with Dr. Kahn

To Ozaukee Press:

I have renewed the required yearly request for an absentee ballot at myvote.wi.gov and will eagerly vote absentee for geriatrics physician Ariba Kahn for county supervisor for district 20 in Mequon. I see many ways that she will serve us well on the Ozaukee County Board.

According to the county’s website, standing committees are where a lot of the work gets done. The Health and Human Services Committee oversees affairs at the Lasata Senior Living Campus. A geriatrics doctor could only enhance the work of that committee.

Last year, we needed help knowing where my partner could go for respite care after he crushed his hip and couldn’t come home. It was suggested I check the county’s website and call the Department of Aging. Through them, we found a free service that helped us. A County Board member has a seat on the Aging and Disability Board and Commission on Aging. The commission, according to the county website, “represents the views, interests and concerns of elderly individuals as well as disabled people in the county.”Who would be more perfect than Dr. Kahn?

Dr. Kahn came to our door in Mequon to ask for our vote. In her literature, she expresses a desire to “protect our hard-earned taxpayer dollars.” Business and related backgrounds seem to be well represented on the board. The citizens of Ozaukee County would benefit from more diverse expertise on the County Board. After having come through a pandemic, we all know how important is public health.

Dr. Kahn is a wife and mother who understands the needs of families and singles as well. I am sure she is adept at working in collaboration and is a quick study. I ask my neighbors in this district to vote early or on election day April 2 for Ariba Kahn.
