LETTER: Don’t vote for Johnson if you value Social Security, Medicare

To Ozaukee Press:

We have an important election coming up. A top concern for me is the protection of Social Security and Medicare.

My parents were always hard-working, thrifty and responsible. That would never have been enough to save them when my late father developed a catastrophic illness in his 50s which prevented him from working and generated huge medical bills for the rest of his life. My late brother led a tragic life of disability. Medicare and Social Security saved my family. My mother is now 93 and continues to count on these programs that they paid into to supplement her savings.

We all need to count on Medicare and Social Security to be there for our family and our neighbors.

Ron Johnson wants us to believe that his goal is to save Medicare and Social Security by making them discretionary rather than mandatory. His plan will radically destabilize or eliminate both programs.

Are you and your family members willing and able to give up Social Security and Medicare? If not, I suggest you vote and vote for Mandela Barnes for Senate and all of the other Democrats. Democrats created Social Security and Medicare to ensure dignity and security in old age and for the disabled.
