LETTER: Don’t make criminals out of people desperate for asylum

To Ozaukee Press:

What is illegal about fleeing persecution and poverty and seeking asylum in another country? What is legal about using tear gas and other forms of intimidation on those seeking asylum?

I look at the masses fleeing for their lives, and I wonder why and how we can call them criminals?

Let us all take another look at those who are trying desperately to enter the United States. These are men, women and children seeking a safe home, a place to rebuild their lives, a place where they and their children will be safe, a place where they will be treated as human beings.

I plead with our government to change our laws, laws that make criminals out of our sanctuary seekers.
