LETTER: Davis is far and away the more qualified appeals court choice

To Ozaukee Press:

I have known and worked with Jeff Davis for more than 30 years while he helped businesses and individuals navigate complex legal problems. During his time as an attorney, he was regarded by both his peers and the judges he appeared before as one of the most prepared, most ethical and hardest working attorneys in Wisconsin. He has continued to demonstrate these traits as a judge during the last 18 months on the Wisconsin Court of Appeals.

Perhaps realizing that Jeff’s qualifications are head and shoulders superior, his opponent, Shelly Grogan, and some of her supporters have tried to sway voters in this county by pointing to the fact that when the vacancy on the appellate court opened up, Jeff applied and was appointed by Gov.Evers. But they conveniently neglect to disclose that Ms. Grogan herself also applied and sought Evers’ appointment when the opening occurred. This strikes me as two-faced.

The fact is, Jeff was not chosen because of his politics—he is non-political as a judge should be. Rather, he was chosen because he was, and is, by far the most qualified. He has garnered endorsements and overwhelming support from numerous business and community leaders. There is also a long list of judges and Wisconsin Supreme Court justices, some of whom are perceived to be on one side or the other of the political spectrum, who support him.

They all support Jeff because he is experienced, fair, smart and down-to-earth. He will continue to decide cases based upon the Constitution and the law, as a judge should. We need judges like this. Please vote for Jeff Davis.
