LETTER: Covid-19 threat overhyped, civil liberties lost in response

To Ozaukee Press:

Wisconsinites should not feel comfortable with Gov. Evers’ edicts in regard to the Covid-19 fear. Social distancing should be heavily urged but not mandated.                         The legislative branch needs to step up and begin the challenge of balancing our civil liberties and public safety concerns.                                                                                                                                               So far not a lot of common sense has come out of the governor’s office. Some edicts have nothing to do with public safety and more to do with political opportunity. Tell me how Hobby Lobby has less significance as an “essential business” than a liquor store. Or arbitrarily shutting down golf courses—can’t think of another activity that better defines what social distancing is. But, boy, at all costs we have to keep those abortion clinics open, but not churches. Evers has closed most Wisconsin parks—not too much left to shut down anymore

We even allow ourselves to be reduced to tattle on each other for violations; that’s scary and smacks of a police state.

Covid-19 seems to have been way overhyped, as these government model experts continue to downgrade those dire death predictions. Those models seem to be about as trustworthy as those given for global warming.

Now that we are beginning to hear some rumbling about getting our economy up and going before we go bust, watch for Democrats and their PR wing in the media blame President Trump for any Covid-19 death that occurs after an agreement is made to resume our daily activities. President Trump could come up with the cure for cancer and liberal Democrats and the media would find fault.
