LETTER: Cedarburg neighbors helped songbirds raise their offspring

To Ozaukee Press:

Congratulations to my immediate neighbors on Walnut and Linden streets in Cedarburg. This summer, we together provided enough food, shelter and nesting sites for the fledgings of two American robins, one or two red-bellied woodpeckers, two house wrens, two goldfinches, two cardinals and two brown-headed cowbirds (raised by the cardinals).

Even common species face an uncertain future, so every little bit helps. Birds like a variety of structure: bushes, fruit trees, even standing dead trees. And don’t forget to keep the buckthorn at bay.
