LETTER: Brad Smith will take his oath seriously, defend democracy

To Ozaukee Press:

I have recently gotten to know Brad Smith, who has announced his candidacy to become our next representative from Wisconsin’s 6th congressional district. I have heard Brad speak three times and have met him in person twice. And I have been impressed with him every step of the way.

As a lifelong Wisconsinite, he is a man who loves Wisconsin, loves his family and loves our country.  He believes in our democracy, feels that the rule of law should be upheld and that the Constitution should be followed. He is a veteran who spent 12 months deployed with the Wisconsin

National Guard in the Middle East during the Global War on Terrorism.

Brad is a breath of fresh air. He is a welcome change to the current toxic political climate. He has refused to attack Glenn Grothman, choosing instead to focus on the issues. Brad believes in affordable housing and health care, in creating and providing good jobs for the citizens of the 6th district and in ensuring that all have access to education that can prepare them for the future.

I am a veteran myself, having served on active duty in the U.S. Navy for over 22 years. I have voted for Republican candidates and for Democratic candidates. Above all, I have voted for those who I believe will stand up for the country and the democracy that I love, the one that I want my children and grandchildren to enjoy.

We desperately need a change, and that change begins with electing congressional candidates who will take their oaths of office seriously; who will vote in support of our democracy and our Constitution; and who will act in the best interests of their constituents.

The time for a change is now. Vote for Brad Smith in the August primary and elect Brad to Congress in November.
