LETTER: Be afraid: Social Security is at risk from Johnson and GOP

To Ozaukee Press:

It’s almost Halloween, so I will tell you a true scary story. If you vote for Republicans, these things will happen. The GOP wants to mess with Social Security and Medicare. Ron Johnson has said that he would eliminate Social Security and Medicare as an entitlement plan and make it part of discretionary spending.

For one thing, Social Security is not entitlement; it is money that all working people have paid in. Sen. Rick Scott of Florida also has a plan to redo Social Security and Medicare every five years.

I am not afraid to admit that I need Social Security and Medicare because the company where I worked for 37 years decided to move down south because of corporate greed. I was only 55 years old and couldn’t find a job that paid more than $9 an hour.

The Republicans also think that it’s OK for a 10-year-old girl who has been raped to carry the baby to term. They are also talking about giving parental rights to rapists.

The biggest threat they pose is the fact that there are 291 election deniers on ballots all over the country. Many Republicans running say they will declare victory even if voting shows they lost. Our democracy is based on the fact that every vote counts. If this is not the rule, then our democracy is in deep trouble.

If you are sick and tired of millions and millions of dollars being spent on political ads that don’t change anybody’s mind and repeat ad nauseum, vote for Democrats who will, if they control Congress, get rid of the big money that buys your senators and congressmen.
