LETTER: With $500 billion unpaid taxes, it’s no time to defund the IRS

To Ozaukee Press:

I am fascinated by the GOP’s obsession with reducing funding for the IRS. The GOP seems to have demonized the IRS. In reality, the IRS doesn’t make tax laws, they enforce the tax laws that have been established by Congress.

Current numbers indicate there is a total of $500 billion in uncollected taxes. While most Americans comply with the tax laws, apparently some don’t. Adequate funding of the IRS is critical to recovering this lost revenue.
