Learning about Port’s police, fire departments

A small town tradition, Port Washington’s annual police and fire department open houses, drew a crowd on Sunday, Oct. 13. Isabel Kultgen, 5, said hello to a member of the fire department dive team (above). (From top right) Emma Bartz peeked out from behind a police shield. Kevin and Alexander,3, Karrels enjoyed the pancake breakfast served by firefighters. Smoke billowed from a demonstration house as firefighters illustrated the benefit of closing bedroom doors at night in case of fire.                                  Photos by Sam Arendt
