Learn to paint the Port lighthouse (as art)

Renee Schreiner will be the September artist in residence at the Cedarburg Cultural Center.

She will be demonstrating her work from 10 a.m. to noon on Sept. 2 to 4, 12, 16 and 18; noon to 2 p.m. on Sept. 14 and 21; and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 23, 25 and 27.

She will teach how to paint the Port Washington lighthouse from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10. Students will paint an 11-by-14-inch acrylic piece.

“Years ago I was known for painting the lighthouse. I could do it with my eyes closed,” Schreiner said.

She has standards for Port’s landmark.

“I refuse to paint the rust on it,” she said of the 90-year-old steel structure that is now being renovated and repainted.

The class costs $58 for Cultural Center members and $70 for nonmembers.
