To Ozaukee Press:
This year’s Port Washington Fish Days festival was a positive renewal of this community event—honoring past traditions with new opportunities.
On behalf of participants, staff and the board of directors of Portal Inc., a sincere, heartfelt thank you to the Fish Days volunteers who heeded Mayor Ted Neitzke’s call to reimagine the event.
Earlier this year, Portal, Inc. was at risk of having our largest fundraising event—the Portal Fish Day Run/Walk/Roll—end. But thanks to all who revived Fish Days and continued to include our event as the kickoff to Saturday morning’s activities, our tradition continued. The 36th edition of the event was a huge success, with 575 individuals running or walking through picturesque Port Washington.
We thank: our financial sponsors; the Port Washington police and fire departments for providing their professional safety expertise for the runners, walkers and cheering spectators; and the spectators who offered water and encouragement along the route.
Kudos to the hundreds of runners and walkers, the event managers, the Portal inc. staff who donate their time and talents and the countless volunteers necessary to make this event fun and successful.
Proceeds from the event provide beneficial services to adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities. Portal services help individuals be valued employees with area businesses, and also provide a variety of opportunities for individuals to experience quality living through life skills instruction, volunteerism and social and recreation activities.
