KUDOS: City Band salutes Port for 95 years of support for its music
To Ozaukee Press:
On Sunday evening, July 24, the Port Washington City Band played our final notes to conclude the band’s 95th season.
Ninety-five years of community band music continuously supported by the City of Port Washington is quite an accomplishment spanning quite a time frame. This is certainly something for everyone to take pride in, for our city and for the city’s leadership.
As communities face tough budget choices, our city’s leadership has continued to value and support what a community band brings to a city. Not only does the band offer the opportunity for musicians ranging from high school age to retired to get together to rehearse and perform music across generations, but it also provides the community with entertainment in parades and Sunday evening summer concerts—kind of recalling a simpler time from the past.
As our 95th season comes to a close, and we look forward to next year and our 100th year—we want to take this opportunity to thank all of our supporters and especially recognize and thank the Port Washington Common Council for its continuing commitment to community band music.
