John Langer

    John H. Langer, Jr., age 71, formerly of East Douglas Street, Port Washington, Wis., passed away Friday, Sept. 25, 2020, after a lengthy illness.
    John was born June 4, 1949, in Cambridge, N.Y.  He was the son of a merchant marine John H. Langer Sr. and Eleanor Berger, and the family moved often due to his father’s job. John grew up in Marinette County, Wis.  
    Shortly after high school graduation, John entered the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.  He served as a boiler technician petty officer from 1967 through 1972.
    Upon his return to the States, John remained in Florida and received his college degree in hospitality management.  While in Florida, John worked at various restaurants. He would later return to the Northeast for a few years, later moving to Wisconsin in the early 1980s.
    John would continue to work in various restaurants and bars, most notably the former McCormick’s Place in Grafton.  Locally he will be remembered for bartending at NewPort Shores restaurant in Port Washington for over 13 years. He had resided in Port for almost 30 years.
    John enjoyed tending his yard and plants.  His hobbies included riding his motorcycle and woodworking. John was a former member of the Port Washington Lions Club.
    He is survived by his children Jennifer (Mike Joers) Thiel of Grafton, Justin (Melissa) Langer of Port Washington, John Langer Jr. (III) of Port Orange, Fla., and Katie Langer of New York; grandchildren Jordan, Jackson and Benjamin; former spouse Renee Langer; his sisters Janice Nelson and Laurelyn Wichgers, his brothers Jimmy (Linda) Langer and Tom (Liz) Langer; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.  
    He was preceded in death by his parents.
    Family services have been held.
