Honoring the ultimate sacrifice for freedom

The Melvin Wester American Legion Post 412 in Belgium held a short ceremony in Community Park on Memorial Day to honor those who gave their lives for the United States. Post Commander Jerry Keller said he was sorry the coronavirus pandemic limited the program. “However, the truth is this is not a day of celebration. This is not really about parades, barbecues and parties with friends and families. Today is about remembrance, memorialization and never forgetting about all those men and women and their families who have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may have the freedom that we all enjoy today. May God bless their souls and may God bless the United States of America,” he said. About 20 people attended the ceremony. Photo by Mitch Maersch
