Heritage Day-Handwerker Schau to be held June 9 at Pioneer Village
The Ozaukee County Historical Society will sponsor a Heritage Day-Handwerker Schau at its Pioneer Village on Sunday, June 9.
The event will be held in conjunction with Flag Day celebrations at Stony Hill School in Waubeka.
The Handwerker Schau features demonstrations of daily life in early 1900s Ozaukee County from noon to 5 p.m. at Pioneer Village, 4880 Highway I.
Blacksmithing, basket making, butter churning, quilting, weaving and spinning will be performed in the outdoor museum’s 20 historic buildings.
Also featured will be an ice cream social, Ed Mueller’s Traveling Broom Shop, hammer dulcimer music and bluegrass by Poul and Linda Sanderson, Pickin’ Up Speed and Dale Palecek.
The Historical Society will host an open house at Stony Hill School, 5595 Hwy. I, from noon to 4 p.m.
A free shuttle bus will be available to take visitors to and from each site.
Other Flag Day events, sponsored by the National Flag Day Foundation, include a program at 11:30 a.m. at the Americanism Center, followed by a parade at 1:30 p.m.
4-H members and leaders, as well as veterans, will be honored during this year’s event.
Family Day begins after the parade, at about 3 p.m., on the Americanism Center grounds. It will include games for children, hay rides and other activities, concluding with fireworks at dusk.
