He had to wait 30 minutes for help

PORT WASHINGTON - Doug Schwanz knows firsthand what it’s like to wait for an ambulance in an emergency, and it’s an experience that’s turned him into an advocate for the City of Port Washington’s April 2 referendum seeking money to bolster the city’s emergency medical service.

“It’s eye-opening when it happens,” he said. “It could have been worse, but it was a life-altering deal.

“This is something we have to have. The citizens need to take it into their hands and vote for this. Without this, a lot of people are going to have a compromised recovery or death.”
