Giro d’Grafton bike racing excitement set for Saturday

It will be a day of high speed races and community activities on Saturday, June 15, with the Giro d’Grafton races in downtown Grafton.

Races are scheduled from 11:05 a.m. to 8:15 p.m., on an .84 mile, six-turn track that starts and ends at the intersection of Beech Street and Wisconsin Avenue.

Fans are invited to cheer on the racers that will compete in 10 races, including everything from novice to pro and youth to 60-and older divisions.

There will be a beer garden and food trucks nearby.

For youngsters, there will be a Kids Zone and a Big Wheels race at 6 p.m. sponsored by the Feith Family YMCA.

Aurora Health Care is providing free helmet checks for children and will give away free helmets as long as they last.

The Giro d’Grafton is part of the 11-day Tour of America’s Dairyland series, the largest competitive road cycling series in the nation.

The Giro d’Grafton race schedule is:

• 11:05 to 11:35 a.m. — Novice men/junior novice boys U19.

• 11:45 to 12:15 p.m. — Novice women/junior novice girls U19.

• 12:25 to 1:05 p.m. — Category 3/4 men.

• 1:15 to 1:55 p.m. — Category 3/4 women.

• 2:05 p.m. to 2:55 p.m. — Category 2/3 men.

• 3:05 to 3:55 p.m. — Masters ages 50 and older categories 1-3, masters ages 60 and older categories 1-3.

• 4:05 to 5:20 p.m. — Pro category 1 women, category 2 women.

• 5:35 to 6:10 p.m. — Handcycle categories 1/2 men series finale, handcycle categories 3-5 men series finale, handcycle categories 1-5 women series finale.

• 6:10 to 7 p.m. — Big wheels race.

• 7 to 8:15 p.m. — Pro category 1 men, category 2 men.
