Fredonia snowmobiler killed in Hwy. 57 crash with truck
A 51-year-old Fredonia man was killed Tuesday night when he drove his snowmobile across Highway 57 north of Meadowlark Road in the Town of Fredonia and was struck by a northbound truck.
According to an Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office press release:
William Redmond was westbound on his 1998 Polaris snowmobile on the snowmobile trail over Highway 57 just after 7 p.m.
He was struck by a 2005 Ford F-450 flatbed truck driven by 35-year-old Kalani Heppe of Illinois.
Redmond, who was traveling alone, was ejected from the snowmobile and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The Fredonia Fire Department, Waubeka Fire Department, Saukville Police Department, Mequon Police Department, Ozaukee County Highway Department, Lanser Towing and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources assisted at the scene.
Sections of both northbound lanes on State Highway 57 were closed until10:14 p.m.
Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor, but the crash remains under investigation by the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team.
