Former gas station site’s future remains a mystery

Rumors that a Starbucks is going in at the former Mid-City Quick Mart gas station near Walmart in Saukville have popped up again in recent days as the building is being torn down.
Once again, the property owner quelled those rumors.
“We have no deals in the works,” Ramkrishna Subedi said last week.
Subedi said the building is being torn down to reduce his property tax liability. “It’s not an income-producing property,” he said.
According to Menasha-based Accurate Appraisal, the village’s assessor, removing the building, tanks, canopies and other improvements and reducing the property to its land-only value would reduce the assessed value of the property from $748,300 to $400,900 in 2020.
Subedi is the registered agent for Elm Grove-based Noby Saukville LLC, a company formed in May just before it purchased the half-acre property at 827 E. Green Bay Ave. from First Bank Financial for $365,000, according to the Ozaukee County Register of Deeds.
First Financial bought the foreclosed property in a sheriff’s auction for $760,000 in September 2018. At the time, the property was valued at $1.09 million.
Subedi has removed underground gasoline storage tanks, which he said he was required to do by the state. Mobil and Citgo gas stations had operated at the site.
