Driver charged with hitting women outside store

A 52-year-old driver accused of hitting two people as they walked out of a Saukville gas station and convenience store early Saturday, June 16, then driving away, has been charged in Ozaukee County Circuit Court with two felonies.

Saukville resident Kenneth J. Post faces two counts of hit-and-run causing injury.

According to the criminal complaint, two women told a police officer that around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, they were walking from the Kwik Trip store at 750 E. Green Bay Ave. to their vehicle, which was parked at a gas pump.

One of the women said she saw a vehicle driving toward them and tried to pull the other woman out of the way, but both of them were hit and knocked to the ground.

The vehicle then drove off, they said. 

One woman said she suffered injuries to both her legs, and the officer saw abrasions on both her knees, the complaint states.

The other woman said her head hit the ground hard after she was hit by the vehicle, according to the complaint.

The officer used surveillance video from the store to identify the driver of the vehicle as Post. The video showed him buying items in the store, then walking to his car and driving past the front of the building where he hit the women, the complaint states.

When Post was arrested at 1:45 p.m. Saturday, he told the officer that he drove to Kwik Trip but does not recall hitting anyone, according to the complaint.

Post admitted to drinking before driving, and a preliminary test showed he had a blood alcohol level of .02 more than 12 hours after the incident, the complaint states. A blood alcohol level of .08 is considered evidence of intoxication.

During a court hearing Monday, Ozaukee County Circuit Judge Sandy Williams set bail for Post at $1,000 and ordered him not to posses or consume intoxicants.
