Donations spur school improvements

Students returned to classes in the Northern Ozaukee School District this week to find a number of improvements, including a second vehicle lift in the Ozaukee High School automotive classroom (left photo). Posing with the lift were (from left) Audrey Bares, Facilities Director Kent Schueller, Supt. Dave Karrels, automotive teacher Travis Kornely and Peter Klass. Bares and Klass are Class of 1967 graduates who along with nine classmates donated $11,000 for an overhead door and lift. The Fredonia school’s automotive program was kick-started by student-led fundraising in 2023 that paid for the first lift. Kornely said having only one lift limited the number of students who could work on a car to three or four at a time. Another improvement is the recently renovated locker room, where Schueller and Karrels stood (above), that was partially paid for by the Booster Club and Basketball Club.     Photos by Sam Arendt
