The Village of Fredonia will get new leadership next April.

Village President Don Dohrwardt is leaving, but he doesn’t want to entirely exit community work.

“I will not be running for village president next time around. I will be running for village trustee instead,” he said on Nov. 12.

Dohrwardt served as village president from 1997 to 2001 before being voted out. He was elected as a write-in candidate for trustee in 2004. He has been village president the past eight years.

“I’ve been wanting to retire for a short time,” Dohrwardt told Ozaukee Press. “I’ll have a little more time on my hands.”

“I have learned of an individual who is running for village president that I will be endorsing.”

Dohrwardt also served as an Ozaukee County Board supervisor from 2000 to 2020, when he was beaten in the general election by Fredonia Trustee Joshua Haas.
