Dogs, lakes among Riveredge topics

Dogs, history and skiing are topics to be addressed at Riveredge Nature Center in the Town of Saukville.

A day for dogs will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct.28.

Riveredge invites dogs and their families to the center once a year to hike the trails to learn why sanctuaries like Riveredge must balance pet access with the needs of local wildlife and plants.

  Leashes are required at all times and pet owners are expected to pick up and dispose of any waste. All people and dogs must remain on designated trails. Maps will be provided.

  Those attending are asked to check in at the Visitor Center.

For Riveredge members, there is a $5 fee per dog. For nonmembers, there is a $5 fee per dog and a $5 trail fee for their owners.

“20,000 Years in the Blink of an Eye: The Past, Present, and Future of the Great Lakes” will be discussed from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9.

Wisconsin Sea Grant Fisheries Specialist Titus Seilheimer will discuss aspects of the Great Lakes that many don’t know, from the natural history of these inland seas from the past to the present and into the future.

The event will be held in-person in the Riveredge Barn, but a Zoom link is also provided.

  The free program is intended for people ages 12 and older.

  People may join the Community Ski and Snowboard Club through noon on Dec. 1.

The club is for people aged 5 and older, including adults, who want to learn or practice how to ski or snowboard.

The club meets every Thursday in January from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

New and experienced skiers and snowboarders are all welcome to the club, which meets at Sunburst Winter Sports Park in Kewaskum.

  A one-time price of $165 for Riveredge members and $175 for nonmembers includes all lessons and lift tickets. Gear rentals are available if needed.
