The Village of Cedar Grove has agreed to sell the property known as Calvary Field to the Cedar Grove-Belgium School District.

Supt. Jeanne Courneene told the School Board last week that the village will sell the 4.4-acre parcel to the district, although details need to be worked out.

Courneene said she would be meeting with Village President Mike DeHaai to finalize the agreement.

Courneene said a closing date has not been set.

“There may be questions or changes that will need to be addressed first,” Courneene said.

The district had been hoping to buy the land for years. It’s known as Calvary Field because it is surrounded by land owned by the district and Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church. The district sent the village an offer to purchase in February.

The land includes a baseball field that the village uses for youth leagues. The school district would like to use it for its softball program, which travels to Belgium for games at Heritage Park.

Cedar Grove is developing athletic fields on land west of the village, but they won’t be ready until at least 2020, School Board President Chad Hoopman said in February.

The village had questions about how its needs would be met before the fields are ready, Courneene said. She said she reassured DeHaai that the district would work with the village on those concerns.
