December activities set at Port library

The Niederkorn Library in Port Washington is hosting a variety of programs in December for both adults and children, including special activities during the city’s annual Christmas on the Corner celebration on Saturday, Dec. 7.

During the festival, the library will be open, serving treats and hot beverages.

The Friends of the Library will operate its book sale, provide crafts for people of all ages, provide a holiday photo opportunity in the community room and hold a winter storywalk on the lawn.

Youth activities for December include:

• STEM Storytime from 10 to 11 a.m. Mondays from Dec. 2 to 16. This program will feature a shortened storytime followed by hands-on science, technology, engineering and math activities with a different theme each week.

This group is open to children of all ages but intended for preschool and kindergarten students.

• Winter Storytimes will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays from Dec. 3 to 17. The interactive storytime is followed by a craft and/or playtime with Miss Amy. The activity is open to all children but is most suitable for preschoolers.

• The Pokémon Trading Card Club will meet from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7.

Those attending may bring Pokémon cards, decks and binders for trading and will also receive a new to you Pokémon Card from the library. This is an all-ages event that  meets in the children’s library. 

• The Lego Club will meet in the children’s library from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21.

Youngsters may use the library’s Legos to design and build, then put their creations on display.

The club is geared toward children 5 and older.

• The Teen Café will be open in the community room from 2:45 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from Dec. 3 to 17.

The cafe is for teens in grades seven to 12. Games and snacks are provided, and some special activities will also be provided throughout the season.

Adult activities at the library include:

• Cold weather crafts will be available beginning at 9 a.m. on Dec.1 for as long as supplies last.

December’s craft is a melting snowman. The kit includes an instruction sheet as well as all the supplies needed for the craft.

• A Grief Support Group will be held in the community room from 4 to 5:30 p.m.  Wednesdays, Dec. 4 and 18.

The group is facilitated by Compassus Hospice.

• The D&D PW Bookwyrms will meet from 5 to 7:45 p.m. Tuesdays.

The group is intended for local game enthusiasts of all abilities who want to participate in a D&D or RPG session.

• The Friday Morning Book Talk group will meet in the quiet room at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13.

The book group is sponsored by the Port Washington Senior Center but adults of all ages are invited.

• The Novel Ideas Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 16, in the quiet room.
