Clara Schanen

    Clara Marie Schanen, age 85, of Friendship, Wis., passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020.
    A Mass of Christian burial was held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Friendship. Father Francis Dias officiated.  
    Interment was at St. Leo Catholic Cemetery.  
    Visitation was from 11 a.m. until the Mass on Sunday at the church.
     Clara was born on Oct. 25, 1934, in Port Washington, Wis., to Nicholas and Cecelia Schmit.
    She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School through the eighth grade and then graduated from Port Washington High School.  
    Clara married Frederick Edward Schanen on Sept. 28, 1957, in Port Washington.
    She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. (She also loved chocolate.)
    Clara was preceded in death by her parents Nicholas and Celia Schmit; husband Frederick “Fritz” Schanen; and brothers Emmy (Florence), Don, Nick, George and Tom (Diane) Schmit.
    She is survived by her son Kurt (Louise) Schanen of Mosinee, Wis., daughter Sue (Gary) Pieper of Adell, Wis.; sons Gregg (Julie) Schanen of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., and Paul (Shannon) Schanen of Adams, Wis.; grandchildren  Nick Schanen of Stevens Point, Wis., Matt Schanen of Arkdale, Wis., Katie Schanen of Stevens Point, Gary (Valerie) Pieper Jr. of Fredonia, Wis., John Pieper of Fredonia, Dan (Nicole) Pieper of West Bend, Wis., Victoria Pieper of West Allis, Wis., Amanda (Jason) Reimer of Stevens Point, Lisa (William) Dortch of Campbellsport, Wis., Gregory (Hayley) Schanen of Kronenwetter, Wis.,  and Austin Martinez, Emily Schanen and Allison Schanen, all of Adams; great-grandchildren Ellie McMahn, Nathan Reimer, Nolan Reimer, Ian Reimer and Owen Reimer, all of Stevens Point, and Madalyn Dortch, Noah Dortch and Wyatt Dortch, all of Campbellsport; and sisters-in-law: Ruth Blecha of Port Washington, Rosie (Tom) Watry of Cecil, Wis., Jenny Schmit of Kansas City, Mo., Pat Schmit of Cedarburg, Wis. and Joann Schmit of Saukville, Wis.
