City moving up in the world with third-class status

Port Washington Mayor Ted Neitzke has proclaimed Port to be a third-class city — a designation that may seem to many to be insignificant but that one alderman said will give the city greater control of its future.

Ald. Mike Gasper, who has worked since taking office to make the change a reality, said the biggest benefit is that the city can now exercise greater control of the area just outside its limits.
