Christmas parade is Sunday

Belgium’s annual holiday festivities are altered due to Covid-19, but the parade will go on.

The Belgium Area Chamber of Commerce is holding the European Christmas parade that steps off at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at Lar-Ann Street and Main Street. It will head west on Main Street to Community Park.

Candy won’t be thrown due to the pandemic, but swag bags packed with goodies will be given to families by masked volunteers.

Families are encouraged to spread out along the parade route.

There won’t be the typical post-parade festivities, including a market, crafts for children, refreshments and a choir.

The Chamber is also holding an outdoor lights decorating contest. Participants are asked to post a picture of their festively decorated homes on the Chamber’s Facebook page under the “Holiday Spirit” thread.

The photo with the most likes by 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, wins $100. Ties will be broken by the Christmas Parade Committee.
