Chestnut Street gets a facelift

Chestnuts could have roasted on the fresh asphalt after crews began paving Chestnut Street in Belgium last Thursday. The project, which besides paving included sidewalk, curbing and storm sewer work, was completed last Friday. Public Works Director Dan Birenbaum said the project was bid last year, and contractor Payne & Dolan until the end of June to do the job. The project was to cost nearly $168,000, and this month the Village Board approved a change order of nearly $6,000 for storm sewer work. Photo by Mitch Maersch
