Book sale, art lessons for all ages on library’s list of September events

Along with a packed schedule of reading and crafting events, the Oscar Grady Library is hosting a series of art lessons for all ages in September.

The fall book sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 18 and 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21.

On Thursday, Sept. 12, the Recipe Club will meet at 11 a.m. to exchange recipes, share cooking tips and enjoy a meal. Participants are invited to bring a recipe that celebrates their cultural heritage to share.

A Fiber Arts Group will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12.

Participants of all skill levels are invited to knit, crochet, weave or work on any other fiber art with fellow crafters.

The book club will discuss “The Kitchen Front” by Jennifer Ryan at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Aurora Health Care will host a presentation on end-of-life care and decisions, including choosing a health-care agent, completing an advance care directive and talking about your plan to loved ones. It will be from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

A Lego club for kindergarten to fifth-grade children will meet at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Children may use the library’s Lego blocks to build unique creations that could be displayed at the library.

The first of the Art Sparks lessons will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25.

Adults will be able to explore the world of neurographic art in the community room.

The second lesson, from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, will teach children in grades 3 through 5 about color, light and shadow to create images that trick our brains.

On the same day, the third lesson from noon to 12:45 p.m. will teach children in kindergarten to second grade.

From 2 to 3 p.m., Friday, Sept. 27, teenagers are invited to a 1960s pop art-inspired program centered on the use of lines, dot patterns and solid colors to recreate the art of Roy Lichtenstein.

Starting on Sept. 23 and running through Nov. 25, Puzzle Play Mondays will meet from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Children in kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to complete jigsaw puzzles of varying difficulties.

Fall story times for children ages 2 to 5 will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, Sept. 24 to Nov. 5.

The story times are free and registration is encouraged.
